Some of our frequently asked questions…
Q. What’s the garden like at Well Cottage?
A. The gardens at Well Cottage span approximately one-third of an acre, yet feel remarkably expansive as they’re surrounded by open farmland and rolling fields—creating a sense of boundless countryside tranquility.
The garden features:
The Main Lawn – Generous open space perfect for stretching your legs, leisurely strolls, or simply relaxing beneath the sky.
Mature Trees & Swing – Beautiful established trees provide shade and character, including a charming swing for a touch of nostalgic whimsy.
English Country Garden Beds – Thoughtfully planted borders showcase flowers from around the world, arranged in the quintessentially romantic English cottage garden style—abundant, colorful, and effortlessly beautiful.
The Garden House & Bar – A delightful outbuilding that doubles as a bar and houses an array of traditional garden games for leisurely afternoons.
Secluded Seating Nooks – Discover hidden corners throughout the garden, including a peaceful bench tucked away for quiet contemplation.
The Courtyard – A sheltered area surrounded by overflowing pots of geraniums, busy lizzies, and begonias—ideal for windier or cooler days. The perfect spot to enjoy a gin and tonic or Pimm’s cup in comfort.
The Kitchen Garden – Located at the bottom of the garden, Laura’s vegetable patch provides fresh, seasonal produce that may appear on your plate throughout the week—a true farm-to-table experience.
Sweet Pea Seating Area – Midway through the garden, a seating area is framed by climbing sweet peas, offering both visual beauty and their signature intoxicating fragrance.
The Greenhouse – Tucked discreetly behind trellis work, the greenhouse nurtures tomatoes and herbs used in Laura’s cooking.
The Herb Trolley – A beautifully weathered vintage trade trolley displays an abundant collection of fresh herbs that Laura incorporates into her culinary creations.
The Front Garden – Approached through a side gate, the cottage is framed by a charming picket fence lined with pink climbing roses and, of course, the iconic working wishing well—which provides water for the entire garden and gives the property its name.
Every corner of the garden invites exploration, relaxation, and a deep connection to the English countryside.
