The beautiful house and gardens of Stourhead is a one-thousand hectare estate at the source of the River Stour in the southwest of the English county of Wiltshire, extending into Somerset. The estate includes a Palladian mansion, the village of Stourton, gardens, farmland, a woodland and even a pub!
The Hoare family purchased the land in 1717, promptly built a new manor house, and then went on to collect heirlooms and artwork during their ownership up until it was donated to the National Trust in 1946.
The famous gardens around the lake were designed and laid out by Henry Hoare II between 1741 and 1780 and you can now enjoy the naturally guided walk through this stunning landscape around the lake and enjoy every minute of its history.
